Designer Patricia Nash knows her handbags. Her collection is carried by retailers including Nordstrom, Macy's and Dillard's.

Nash grew up admiring vintage bags like those in her mother's closet and has a fondness for old, artisan styles with handcrafted details. When friends suggested Nash create her own line, she told them, "When I find something that's really special, I'll do it myself."

With Patricia Nash Handbags, launched in 2010, Nash says she's captured the essence of her favorite styles. "We just tried to hold on to that integrity of that Old World craftsmanship," she said.

Nash's fall and winter collection includes cross-body pouches, versatile totes, and wallets with details such as hand stitching and embossed leather.

Nash will be at Dillard's in Fayette Mall from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

She says she always gleans ideas for designs by talking to her customers. How do they like to carry the bag? Is the zipper in the right spot?

"I've learned so much, so now I'm able to critique my designs by having all the functionality and little quirky things that we women like in our bags."
