Until now, Saddleback Leather has been known only for functional leather designs and a 100 year warranty, but now the leather company has a new feather to place in their leather cap: the opportunity to be invited to a world class film festival.

January 16th kicks off the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and Saddleback is honored to have a film chosen for the event. The video that made it into the Sundance Film Festival is one of many planned that will give people a snippet into the lives of Saddleback employees. Of the 8,000 short films that were submitted, this is one of the 60 that was accepted. The title of this entry is “Tim and Susan Have Matching Handguns.”

In 2010 Dave Munson hired Joe Callander for part time customer service. However, Dave saw Joe’s skill as a filmmaker and realized that together they could tell stories in a dynamic way. Starting with product videos, there was growing a desire to share other stories that would convey better who Saddleback Leather Co.is than with words alone. “We want to communicate how great the products are, but also share some of the stories that each of us have and what we value,” said Munson.

Munson is a storyteller and shares many of his experiences while living in Mexico on the Saddleback Leather website. Meshing his storytelling with film has given customers a look at their products but even more than that, it has given customers a way to connect and see that Saddeback is about building and connecting with people.

”We want to share a bit of who we are and what better way to do it is there than film? It’s an honor to be able to do that at Sundance, of all places!” said Munson.

Joe Callandar, the filmmaker at Saddleback said “I've been rejected from Sundance at least a dozen times, which makes this film even more of a victory for me. Even if it is the shortest film they've ever played. I see Sundance as the first summit in a series of very arduous climbs.” Saddleback has been known for quality leather but now are wanting to share their values, purpose, people and products in a visual context. About Saddleback Leather

Saddleback Leather Co. traces its origins back to a single bag, designed and built for Dave Munson when he was volunteering and working in Mexico. In search of the perfect bag at the time, Munson commissioned a local leather craftsman to build his design. As the quantity of orders from fellow travelers could not be denied, Munson started Saddleback Leather Co. in 2003, bringing together classic design with his signature take on personal, indestructible functionality. Thousands of bags later, the Saddleback Leather collection features heirloom-level bags and small accessories produced with the highest quality leather that will age to reflect the owner’s trials and travels. Saddleback Leather, they’ll fight over it when you’re dead.™
