With the holiday party season thisclose to taking off, it's now or never to start looking for that one (or two, or three... ) fabulous clutches to take you through the celebratory season. So what better place to look for inspiration than the perfect mash-up of Upper East Side Euro-chic and Hollywood glam in the Perrin Paris 1893[1] x B. Åkerlund[2] Haute Couture Capitale Clutch holiday collection.
Clockwise from top left: Peacock holographic stingray, Madame de Ville Dalmatian print and calfskin, Disco metallic lambskin and glitter, and Astro black calfskin and plexiglass (in collaboration with Erevos Aether)
A little background, first: Founded in 1893 as luxury leather glove maker, Perrin Paris was relaunched in 2006 as a heritage accessories house offering beautifully understated and impossibly elegant handbags. The Capitale clutch, with the distinctive driving glove handle and posh gold stud, is their signature piece. Owners Michel and Sally happened to sit next to celeb stylist B. Åkerlund (whose work you most definitely have seen on Lady Gaga[3] , Rihanna[4] , and Beyoncé[5] ) at a dinner party and voila—a a holiday collaboration was born.
The Perrin Paris x B. Åkerlund Haute Couture Capitale collection features 12 custom, made-to-order clutches that are so fun and inventive and ideal for holiday party inspiration. We attest to that fact since we saw the pieces in person when we dropped by the Perrin Paris boutique in Manhattan to chat with Perrin Paris granddaughter (it's a family business!) and creative director Chloe Perrin on her expert advice on how to shop for an investment clutch for the holiday party season and the dish on this Madison Avenue meets Rodeo Drive collaboration.
Chloe Perrin
What trends are you seeing in terms of holiday party clutches and accessories this season?
CP: As cliché as it sounds, I feel like saying glitter, a lot of glitter and I think red is just still around. It always is. And maybe variations of red. Not just the obvious red but interesting reds that you're not used to seeing.
What tips and advice would you give our readers if they're thinking about buying an an investment handbag?
CP: I would urge women to get a sense of what real leather feels like and invest in something that will actually last years instead of a bags of a poor quality that won't last very long. If it's an investment piece, lean towards black, beige and brown.
What about advice for men looking to gift the women in their lives with an investment bag?
CP: When men shop, I would strongly suggest they stick to neutrals because you never know a woman well enough to get her a crazy colorful clutch [laughs]! I usually tell men to get their girlfriends or wives a beautiful sexy black clutch or a beautiful bordeaux, subdued red. I'd stick to very sexy colors.
So what clutches will you be carrying to all the parties you're hitting this season?
CP: [Makes a beeline over to the window and snaps up the Capitale clutch in rouge[6] .] I've been wearing this one already because I'm that excited for Christmas. This one is my November/December clutch. It works with everything! I'm generally not a big fan of red—I usually only wear red on my lips and I've never owned a red accessory— so this is my first one. It works with black, beige, navy, white...It really feels like lipstick!

Which B. Åkerlund x Perrin Paris clutch do you like best? Do you agree with Chloe's advice on shopping for an investment clutch? And seriously, what kind of bag would you want your man to buy you? (If at all.)
