This week's Theory sample sale is being hosted at two locations: Clothingline and Chelsea Market. Both were scheduled to begin today at 11am, however the staff at Chelsea Market decided to open a full hour early in order to avoid line buildup. There was only a small handful of shoppers waiting around from about 9:30, but hoards of Theory fans will most likely show up sooner rather than later.
In terms of pricing, discounts are technically up to 65% off, however there are steals in the mix—there was an amazing $3,450 ponyskin coat on sale for $399. Read on for what else is at the Chelsea Market sale, and compare that to what we found at Clothingline[1] .
The sale's definitely worth a trip if you're in need of clothing for both the office and the weekend. There are tons of corporate blazers for $169, pants suitable for work for $109, and two longs racks filled with cozy fall knits for $99. There are also lots of basic silk and cotton blouses, button downs, and tanks for $79. Racks are scattered throughout with Theory's activewear line, Theory 38. Expect to pay $99 for a windbreaker or bottom, or $39 for an active top or stretch pant.
Shoppers were mainly focused on the two long racks filled with everything leather and suede. There are dresses, pants, leggings, and more jackets in every size. Anything leather costs $399—not exactly cheap—but the quality is great, and considering the fact that a Theory leather moto jacket retails for $1,200, $399 doesn't sound too bad. There are lots of styles, including a shearling jacket and few different motos. We fell madly in love with a pair of Theyskens' Theory grey suede trousers, also $399. Those were tough to walk away from.
Downstairs is where you will find all of the Theyksens' Theory merchandise. While most of the Theory clothing is current, the Theyksens' apparel is a mixture of seasons. The sweaters down here are $99, jackets are $179, tees are $39, skirts are $89, tops and bottoms are $79, dresses are $159, and outwear is $249.
Down here is where you will also find the shoes, which are $129 a pop, except for ballet flats for $99. Believe it or not, there is backstock on shoes, so hopefully they won't run out of sizes too quickly.
Other things you'll find upstairs include a whole lot of outerwear for $259, and denim for $79. Oddly, we noticed other brands mixed in like, J Brand and Rag & Bone. All of the bags are $149—including a really sweet black leather backpack—except for a clutch that comes in mustard, black, and beige for $49.
If the prices are making you a bit queasy, consider waiting until the inevitable markdowns hit. There's a ton of backstock, so there should be more than enough left at the end of the week. But be warned that, as we left, we did see lots of ladies women the racks of sweaters and leather jackets. The sale runs until Sunday; see the hours in the dealfeed below.—Claudia Saide
