Police today appealed for information following a street robbery in Runcorn.

A 22-year-old woman was mugged by two men, one wearing a devil mask and the other wearing a skeleton mask.

She was walking along an alleyway between Cranage Close and Whitchurch Way in Halton Lodge when she was approached from behind by at least two men.

They pulled at her handbag, which was over her shoulder, and as she turned round she was hit in the face.

The offenders stole the handbag and then fled the scene, running off towards Cranage Close.

DC Justin Jones, who is investigating the incident, said: "We are currently trying to piece together as much information as possible and are urging anyone who may have been in that area around that time and has witnessed what happened to get in touch.

"Fortunately the victim was not seriously injured. She suffered bruising and swelling to her left eye but she was understandably very upset by what happened.

"The incident took place on halloween and there would have been a lot of people out and about at the time so I would appeal to anyone who may be able to assist with our enquiries to come forward.

"We are also appealing for any information regarding the location of the handbag. It is a brown leather handbag with a chain strap and gold buckle."

The incident took place at around 7.40pm on Thursday, October 31.

The offenders were wearing dark clothing. One was wearing a devil mask and the other was wearing a skeleton mask.

Anyone with any information is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 869 of 31 October or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
