A BURGLARY victim tried to beat off three men with her handbag before they hit her and snatched it along with jewellery and cash.

The incident happened at around 8.15pm on Saturday when the victim returned to her home in Finch Crescent, Linslade, to find the men searching the house.

The offenders attempted to escape through the back garden but were confronted by the homeowner who also tried to call the police.

As the men attempted to then attack the victim she defended herself using her handbag before one of the offenders grabbed it, hit her and then fled.

The victim raised the alarm but after checking her property she realised that as well as her red leather handbag, a large amount of cash had also been stolen as well as a gold bracelet and a white gold wedding ring which had diamonds set in it.

The three offenders were described as white males, in their early 20s and all wearing dark clothing with their faces covered.

Detective Constable Mandy Godfree, who is investigating the incident, is keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area prior to the aggravated burglary.

She would also like to hear from anyone who lives in the Mentmore Road or Cedars Way areas who may have noticed some suspicious activity in the area.

DC Godfree said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim and I would urge anyone with information to come forward as quickly as possible.

“I’m keen to speak with anyone who lives locally and may have noticed anything out of the ordinary in the weeks leading up to this burglary. I’d also like to hear from anyone who may have been offered any of the items stolen.

“Please don’t dismiss your information as unimportant, small or insignificant – even tiny details which don’t seem relevant now might become useful later on in the investigation.”
