"I've been running my bag and shoe spa for four years now and I've gradually become aware that my customers are looking for something more exclusive and functional than a luxurious leather bag by a leading brandname. They want a bag that makes them outstanding and different, and which also identifies who and what they are," says Min.
"Customers know I have a skilled team of craftsmen team and the experience and knowledge to give them what they want. They've pushed me into designing bags."
The new J Avenue boutique is small but well stocked with a wide variety of materials ranging from exotic leathers and textiles to accessories. Min offers about 20 standard patterns, all of them designed to be functional, smart and in tune with the urban lifestyle.
Leather Tailor stocks premium skins from such creatures as the ostrich, rabbit, horse, snake, crocodile, lamb, sheep and even the sea ray. The shelves are stacked with models of overnight bags, leather suitcases with rollers, crocodile handbags, snake clutches and bracelets made from ostrich, snake and crocodile skin.
"I'm developing a 3D-design program to help customer sketch their favourite bags. I'm focusing mainly on fashion bags and functional totes of the kind used by sportsmen, photographers and bikers. All are lined with satin and cotton-satin inside to make them last. Customers placing an order can expect to wait between three to 10 days for their bags," Min says, adding that she also offers a cleaning service.
Fashionistas wanting to make a further statement can also opt to have their names engraved on their bags in a variety of colours.
