Just days after Kanye West told Zane Lowe about how companies keep turning him down — sounding like a patient venting to his shrink — big brother Jay Z has announced he’s teamed up with Barneys New York (as in the big-ass luxury department store) for a holiday collection of limited-edition products. What might irk Kanye even more is that Hov has tapped a few of his designer friends like Lanvin, Balenciaga, Balmain, Proenza Schouler, Rick Owens and Moncler to help him out. Dubbed ‘A New York Holiday,’ the range includes a black leather backpack, a black square-print scarf, a hoodie, a tailored jacket, a black leather duffel with faux crocodile trim and an 18-karat-gold double ring.
But that isn’t all: there’ll also be a BNYSCC (Barneys New York Shawn Corey Carter) art gallery installation in the Madison Ave. flagship, with the logo being printed on the store’s shopping bags.
The collection goes on sale Nov. 20 through to Jan. 2 at Barneys’ flagship stores in New York, Beverly Hills, San Francisco, Boston and Chicago, as well as online. 25 percent of all proceeds will benefit the Shawn Carter Foundation, so it isn’t all about Hov trying to make it to a billi.
