· Hangin' with Hyatt: Extreme Geocaching: 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 11; $4 for child and $6 for adult members, $6 for child and $8 for adult nonmembers

Participants learn about geocaching and how to use Global Positioning System units. Units will be available. After learning about geocaching, participants look for cache boxes containing puzzle pieces along the trails. After finding all seven pieces, participants return to build the puzzle.

· Nature Story Time: 9:30 to 11 a.m. Jan. 11; $5 for child and $8 for adult members per session, $6 for child and $9 for adult nonmembers per session

Families with children ages 3 to 7 listen to a story and take an outdoor hike. Puppets, props and live animals may be part of each story time.

· Environmental Voices: The 100th Anniversary of the Extinction of the Passenger Pigeon: 2 to 3 p.m. Jan. 11; $7 for adult members, $8 for nonmember adults

Stanley Temple presents a program commemorating the 100th anniversary of the extinction of the passenger pigeon. The presentation covers how and why this disaster occurred, how vital it is to promote the conservation of species habitat, strengthen the relationship between people and nature, and foster the sustainable use of natural resources.

· Wylde Thyme: 2 to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 12; free with center admission

Wylde Thyme is a musical ensemble of family and friends who have been playing in the Racine-Kenosha area since 2006. The family friendly music encourages active participation in music making, singing and dance. The group plays mostly Irish tunes with a bit of world music.

· Nature Adventures and Nature Explorers: Session III: 4 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 3, 10 and 24; and Session IV: 4 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26; $45 for Sessions I and III and $60 for Sessions II and IV for child members, $51 for Sessions I and II and $68 for Sessions II and IV for nonmember children

Children in kindergarten and first grade (Nature Adventures) and second and third grades (Nature Explorers) play outdoors and participate in discovery activities.

Resource center hosts Feldenkrais workshop

Shorewood — The Shorewood Senior Resource Center, 2010 E. Shorewood Blvd., will host a two-part workshop, "Regaining Youthful Movement Through Feldenkrais" from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 11 and 18.

The Feldenkrais system aims to reduce pain or limitations in movement, improve physical function such as balance and promote general well-being.

The cost for the workshop, which covers both sessions, is $36 for Shorewood residents and $42 for nonresidents. Registration with payment is required by Jan. 7.

Club holds youth activity, preschool fair

Mequon — Christ Church, 13460 N. Port Washington Road, hosts the MOMS Club of Mequon Youth Activity and Preschool Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 11.

The free event is for families with children of all ages. Educational, extracurricular and family services will all be featured. Check out area preschools as well as various sports, music and therapy programs. A supervised indoor playground will be available.

Artist shares story, offers workshop

Whitefish Bay — The Fox Bay Cinema Grill, 334 E. Silver Spring Drive, hosts "An Evening With Lily Yeh" featuring a showing of her documentary titled "The Barefoot Artist" from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 12.

The evening begins with a "Mix and Mingle" with live music from 5 to 5:50 p.m., followed by dinner and the movie from 6 to 7:45 p.m. A discussion with Yeh from 7:50 to 8:30 p.m. ends the evening.

Limited general admission tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door (if tickets remain). Dinner is extra.

Lynden Sculpture Garden hosts a variety of activities

River Hills — The Lynden Sculpture Garden, 2145 W. Brown Deer Road, hosts a variety of activities.

The garden is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Admission is $9 and $7 for students and seniors. Members and children younger than 6 are free.

· grow Workshop With Yevgeniya Kaganovich: 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 12

Kaganovich and her student assistants take up residence in the studio to make the next "planting" of "grow," Kaganovich's durational installation. Drop in to watch or participate as Kaganovich fuses layers of plastic to create a surface similar to leather or skin, mold the skin into plant-like volumes, stuff the volumes with more bags, and connect the forms with plastic bag "thread." Tasks will include cutting sheets and strips, fusing sheets and tubes, sewing bulb forms and connecting them to bases, crocheting tubes and necks, stuffing stalks and assembling the plants.

· All Things Paper: The Marvels of Marveling: A Workshop With Carey Watters: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 18; $100 or $90 for members (all materials included)

Learn a variety of techniques related to paper. The first series focuses on paper marbling and book structures made from marbled paper. Students learn techniques for marbling paper and finish the day by making a book with some of their own marbled paper.

· Dog Days at Lynden: noon to 5 p.m. Jan. 18

Participants can bring their canine friends for an afternoon of romping in the garden. Dogs must be leashed and considerate of other visitors.

· Light Up the Garden & Night-Time Walk: 3 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 19

Jeremy Stepien leads the annual family workshop to make a lantern (or bring your own). Naomi Cobb leads a lantern-lit walk through the garden. The event ends with a bonfire and hot cider.

· Winter Studio Class: Toyshop: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 1 to 2 p.m. Jan. 22 to March 12; $92 or $76 for members

Participants ages 4 to 6 use clay, paint and mixed media to make three-dimensional diversions.

· Weekly Art Drop-In for Kids Ages 6 to 12: 3 to 5:30 p.m. Jan. 22 to May 21; $10 or $8 for members per session, $56 or $40 for members for eight sessions

Each week participants learn about different materials, processes and themes, and get started on a project.

Participants ages 6 to 15 track animals in the snow as inspiration for a printmaking project, creating wintery diorama sculptures. Two workshop topics are offered each day, one focusing on three-dimensional artmaking and the other on the natural environment.

· Silk Scarf Painting: A Workshop With Kelly Lahl: 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 25; $100 or $90 for members (all materials included)

Participants learn to dye scarves. Each student creates three scarves as well as make some hand painted silk ribbon.

Participants make two vases using porcelain clay material.

Senior citizens club holds winter potluck picnic

Glendale — The Glendale Senior Citizens' Club will hold a winter potluck picnic at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 15 in the clubroom on the lower level of Glen Hills Middle School, 2600 W. Mill Road.

Senior center plans trip to Milwaukee Jewish Museum

Shorewood — The Shorewood Senior Resource Center, 3920 N. Murray Ave., sponsors a trip to the Milwaukee Jewish Museum, followed by lunch at Lake Park Bistro, from 9:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 30.

A narrated tour provides the story of the customs and culture of the Milwaukee Jewish community. There also will be an Andy Warhol exhibit, "10 Portraits of Jews of the 20th Century."

Participants then enjoy either salmon or boeuf bourguignon at Lake Park Bistro. Meal selection must be noted on the registration form.

The cost of the trip is $39 for Shorewood residents and $42 for nonresidents. The fee covers the cost of school bus transportation, entrance to the museum and the tour, lunch and gratuities. Registration is due by Jan. 15.
