The Tory Burch sample sale[1] is starting off with a bang this season, with a surprise opening this afternoon. We stopped by this morning and found a room full of the brand's offerings. Pricing is consistent with past Tory sales[2] , so be prepared to score 60% to 75% off retail.
This is a solid sale, with tons of the classic pieces that have become synonymous with the brand. Think handbags with gold tone hardware, sturdy studded boots and booties, patterned and embellished silks, and loads of pieces featuring gold Tory Burch buttons.
Upon entering the sales floor, it's impossible to disregard the wall of candy colored handbags and clutches. The offerings include everything from structured crossbody styles to oversized colorblocked totes, and each style is available in a number of colorways. Many of the styles were also available in classic black, so those will likely move quickly. Prices range from $195 to $295.
Among Tory's signature ready-to-wear, there's also a number of festive gems fit for the holiday season. f you need to re-energize your wardrobe for a holiday fete, this is a great place to start. Even though this is an overstock sale with tons of merchandise, we suggest scouring the racks closely. Some of the more exciting styles were not available across all sizes, so unless you know what to look for, you may miss it.
The dresses (with the exception of long evening dresses) were priced at $150. The selection includes several fit and flare patterned silk styles that will easily transition from work wear to weekend wear, and a variety of structured sheath and shift styles. A burgundy long-sleeve silk dress with floral appliques and delicate beading is also available.
A few racks also offer longer evening gowns with intricate bead work and lace for $450. While this is steeper than the other merchandise available, the discount is substantial from retail pricing, which usually exceeds $1,000 for Tory evening gowns.
Among the separates, a sleeveless sheer graphic print blouse was $85, and the Farah skirt[3] and Ruby skirt[4] are both $85. A quilted chocolate brown leather jacket for $250 was getting a lot of love on the racks. There are also a number of tunics with gems and beading for strong>$95, including a black velvet version that would turn heads.
Among the shoes, we spied studded booties, flat knee-high boots, sneakers, loafers, and some basic pumps. Sadly, no classic Revas were available.
Check out our photo gallery for a full price list and some other highlights. Space in the communal fitting room is ample, and all bags must be checked. The sale continues at Clothingline (261 West 36th Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues) through Saturday, December 14th. Hours are 11am to 7pm weekdays and 11am to 5pm Saturday.—Kiran
