Library open house
The Smithville Public Library Open house will be from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12. The library is located at 507 Main St. In addition to the horse-drawn carriage rides and the rides on the Ann Powell “Reading Express” the library will have the Keep Bastrop County Beautiful’s Recycle More Art Contest awards presentation. Smithville had 130 creative entries from some very talented kids. The wonderful products are decorating the library Christmas tree, with the winning entries prominently gracing the display table.
The Open House shall also feature a guest author, Larry Brill, who wrote “The Patterer.” Billed as “Monty Python meets Charles Dickens,” this story takes the reader on a hilarious path, following the questionable journalism of his title character. Brill’s book and presentation should fit quite nicely with the library’s “Olde English Christmas” theme. Brown Primary carolers and wonderful refreshments prepared by the Friends of the Library should keep everyone in the holiday spirit, so come on down.
