In the first incident on October 16, police were called to reports that a man entered the Wells Street store in Scunthorpe and asked a woman to hand over money and cigarettes. The woman handed over the items which the man placed in a bag before leaving the store.
The robber may have been accompanied by another man and it is reported that they may have left the location in a vehicle. Police are trying to locate a man described as being mixed race, of a stocky build and with facial hair in the style of a goatee.
He was thought to have been aged in his 20s, with brown eyes and a large nose. He was described as wearing a dark, possibly blue/grey hoody with thick white cords around the neck, grey jogging bottoms and dark trainers. He was carrying a black drawstring bag with light-coloured strings.
A 21-year-old man and a 24-year-old man were arrested in connection with the incident and both have been released on bail to a date in December, pending further enquiries.
In the next attack between 7.15pm and 7.45pm on November 8 an unknown man walked into the Dhillioh Stores, Frodingham Road, Scunthorpe, with a firearm and placed a carrier bag onto the counter.
He is then alleged to have asked the shop assistant to hand over cash, which was placed into the bag, and then left. The offender was dressed in a grey Adidas tracksuit with Adidas trainers. He was of a stocky build, wore black leather gloves on and his face was covered by a mask.
At 9pm on November 15 at the Angerstein Road Newsagent a masked man confronted the shop owner who was in the process of locking and securing his shop.
The masked man was brandishing a handgun and after a brief tussle with the shop keeper tried to get him back into the store, but was stopped from gaining access and left on foot.
The final robbery was at 9.47pm on December 8 at the Sainsbury’s petrol station on Doncaster Road. The man was wearing a ‘Chucky’ style mask, an Adidas tracksuit and had a firearm and a Lidl carrier bag.
He demanded cash from the cashier and ran away after getting the money. He was chased by a member of the public as he ran along Doncaster Road.
