Police are hunting a man who sexually assaulted a young woman walking in the underpass beneath the M32 Eastgate roundabout on Saturday morning.
At about 7.30am, the woman was grabbed by a man in his mid to late twenties. She was sexually assaulted and her bag was stolen. The man was seen running along Stapleton Road towards Easton.
Detectives say it is vital for them to trace the woman’s bag and its content, which included an iPhone in a white case.
Investigating officer DC Richard Warren said: “This was a very distressing ordeal for the victim who suffered cuts and grazing after falling to the ground during the assault.
“Following the incident we believe the man ran off along Stapleton Road towards Easton, taking the victim’s handbag with him.
“It is very important that we trace this bag and its contents, which included an iPhone in a white case. It is a white leather-look bag with a shoulder strap.
“The offender is described as mixed race, in his mid to late twenties, between 5ft 10ins and 6ft, clean shaven, of slim build, with short dark hair. He was wearing a dark hooded top and trousers.
“We are carrying out a full investigation into this incident and will be supporting the victim throughout.
“Have you been offered a white-leather look bag over the weekend, or know where this bag may be? Do you recognise the description of the man? If you can help, please come forward, as every piece of information is important.”
Anyone with information is asked to call DC Richard Worrin or the Operation Bluestone team on 101.
