At least five vehicles were burglarized as they were parked at Darien homes near the northwest tip of Woodland Park over night on Wednesday, Oct. 16, into the next morning. There were no signs of forced entry into any vehicles, meaning many were likely left unlocked.
A black leather bag with an iPad and iPod was stolen from a car parked at a Hillcrest Avenue home. The owner told police she was unsure if she locked her 2008 Honda. The bag was later found on Hillcrest with $500 worth of electronics and power chords missing.
Police also responded to two car break-ins on Devon Road. A $300 pair of Chanel sunglasses was taken from a 2011 Land Rover, and a 2009 Jeep Cherokee was rifled through, although nothing was taken, police said.
A 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe had been parked at a Chester Road home and was rifled through, although nothing was missing. Over on Forest Road, a 2007 Toyota Rav4 had a 20-dollar bill taken from its center console.
In several cases, doors were left slightly ajar and items from the glove boxes and center consoles were strewn throughout the car. A GPS device was not taken from one vehicle.
Darien Police continue to respond to unlocked vehicle burglaries, despite the saying that sits on the back of all patrol cars: “Lock your car. Every time. Everywhere.”
