Last week, Kickboxing and Martial Arts clients at Personal Mastery Martial Arts and iLoveKickboxingSandy attended a women's safety course called Heels, Handbags, and Chocolates. The course, taught by Women's Safety Expert Teresa Lechtenberg, was designed to teach women easy-to-use and easy-to-remember self defense techniques that are adaptable to a variety of situations. All of the material was based off of easy movements that women use every day, like turning a key to unlock a door, etc.
Women's Safety Expert Teresa Lechtenberg said about the course, "Women love this class because it deals with serious issues but in a manner that is easy to understand and uses every day body movements that every woman can relate to in a non-intimidating way."
In addition to learning easy-to-use self defense techniques, the ladies who attended this course also got to practice their new-found skills on the "beating boy" Aaron Doucet. Not only did they learn how to use self defense techniques, but they got to practice applying the techniques and see what happens.
The course also included instruction with a special self defense tool that the ladies got to take home with them. The tool is called a kubaton. All of the participants were very excited to receive their kubaton and learn how to use it. One participant, Anissa Berriochoa, said when she received her kubaton, "It's super great to have! Because it's small and doesn't need a lot of force or fancy moves to use for it to be effective. You can use just a couple small movements to protect yourself from an attacker, allowing you to get away without a lot of force."
Another participant, Amin Kees, said about the course, "I loved the class! It was very informative! I liked learning about the pressure points."
Overall, this course was very informative for all of the participants. Everyone learned something new and left feeling much more confident in their ability to defend themselves should the need ever arise. And, of course, they were happy to eat the chocolate that came as part of the course as well.
