Thieves have targeted a Prada store in Yorkville in the latest case of ‘smash and grab’ robberies within the last 48 hours.
Staff at Toronto Prada say about $100,000 worth of merchandise was stolen, mainly handbags worth about $2,000 each.
Police are reviewing surveillance video after suspects smashed the glass doors of the luxury store on Bloor Street West near Avenue Road early Wednesday morning.
The suspects used an object to break the glass and fled the scene before police arrived, leaving two designer purses on the ground amid the shattered glass.
According to a Prada store spokesperson, in-store wallet prices range from $420 to $550, while handbag prices range from $1,500 to $3,150.
Police are searching for two suspects and a white BMW.
The incident happened an hour after thieves used a white Mercedes-Benz to crash into the front of Rider’s Choice, a motorcycle gear store at Dixie Road and Queensway East, shortly after midnight.
Surveillance cameras caught the suspects smash in the glass doors and windows then load the car with a “large quantity” of merchandise, said Peel police spokesperson Sgt. Matt Small. The store sustained about $10,000 in damages.
A day earlier thieves drove a stolen Ford pickup truck into the Sporting Life at Sherway Gardens. The suspects loaded their truck with merchandise such as Canada Goose jackets, but were unable to move the car, forcing them to leave everything behind and flee the scene in a waiting vehicle.
Toronto and Peel police are still and investigating, and are unsure if there is any connection between the three incidents.
