GREENFIELD, DRIVEBY SHOOTING



UP to seven shots were fired into a house in Sydney's south-west in a drive-by attack this morning.


Police were called to a house on Greenfield Road following reports of a shooting about 1.15am.


It is believed up to seven shots were fired into the house striking the outside of the premises and a bedroom window.


A family of four adults were home at the time but not injured in the shooting.


Fairfield detectives are investigating the shooting and are being assisted by officers attached to Operation Talon, a strike force established in August last year to combat public place shootings.


They are appealing for anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information that could assist police to contact Fairfield Detectives on (02) 9728 8432.


BANKSTOWN, DRIVEBY SHOOTING


SHOTS have been fired into home in Sydney's west overnight in a drive-by attack.

Four shots were fired into the front of the house on Saurine St, Bankstown, around 1.40am Thursday morning.

Police said people were home at the time, but no one was injured.


A dark coloured sedan was seen driving up the street straight after the shooting and detectives from Bankstown police are investigating a possible motive for the attack.

It is not known if it was a targeted attack.

The shooting comes less than a week after shots were fired into a car parked on the front lawn of a home in nearby Revesby.


GLEBE, PURSUIT


FOUR youths have been arrested and a fifth is on the run after leading police on a pursuit and crashing their car in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Just after 3am, officers from Leichhardt police began pursuing a car through the back streets of Glebe when the driver refused an order to stop.

Police said the silver Subaru Liberty collided with a truck at the intersection of William Henry And Wattle St after it ran a red light.

The impact of the crash smashed in the front left passenger door, and police said the five suspects tried to flee the scene.

Three were quickly located, a 17-year-old was taken to St Vincent's Hospital for treatment to a cut hand and a 16-year-old was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for assessment, while two 19-year-old was taken to Newtown police station.

Officers with the dog squad found a fourth man, also 19, hiding the scrubland of a nearby vacant lot on Bay St just after 4am.

He was arrested at the scene and treated by paramedics before being taken Newtown police station.

Police are still searching for the fifth suspect.

WOOLLOOMOOLOO, CRASH


TWO men are on the run after crashing a stolen car into a pole.


The crash happened just after midnight as the pair were driving through the intersection of Burke and William St, Woolloomooloo.

The car has collided head on into a traffic light pole, smashing the front windscreen of the red hatchback.

The men fled the scene on foot and police have established a crime scene to investigate the crash.


Few details are available on the men, only that one is of solid build and one of slight build.


A witness to the crash said he thought they were in their mid-20s.

CAMPSIE, INDECENT ASSAULT


A YOUNG woman travelling on a Sydney train was indecently assaulted by a man old enough to be her grandfather.


The 22-year-old woman was catching a train from Central to Campsie around 11.30am Tuesday morning when the old man started a conversation with her.


Police allege the 81-year-old then "inappropriately" touched her and tried to kiss her a number of times.


The young woman moved to another part of the train before alerting Campsie police when she got of the train.


The man was arrested at Campsie police station on Wednesday, where he was charged with indecent assault.


He has been granted strict bail conditions to appear in Burwood Local Court on February 4.


RYDALMERE, STOLEN GOODS


POLICE are calling on the public to identify where one tonne of stolen copper recovered in Sydney's north west originated.


The stolen industrial-style copper wire, was found during a police search in Rydalmere on Tuesday afternoon, which was being taken out of its plastic covering.


A 37-year-old man has arrested and charged with goods in custody suspected of being stolen.


He was bailed to appear in Parramatta Local Court on February 26 and police are asking anyone with information to contact Rosehill Police or Crime Stoppers.


LAKE MACQUARIE, ATTEMPTED ROBBERY


TWO people are on the run after a failing to steal an ATM on the Central Coast.


Two pair broke into a shopping centre in Lake Macquarie on Fishery Point Rd, Bonnells Bay just after 1am Wednesday morning.


They broke through the glass doors of the centre and damaged the front of the ATM before fleeing empty-handed and driving off in a car which was parked on the footpath outside.


The pair had their faces covered with bandanas and have been described as having large build and dressed in black.


REDFERN, ATTACK


A WOMAN has been charged after allegedly biting another woman on a train during an attempted robbery. Police were told a 21-year-old woman was approached by an older woman while she was travelling between Strathfield and Redfern at 11.30pm on Tuesday. The older woman then demanded she hand over her mobile phone, which the younger woman refused to do. Police allege the 42-year-old then bit the younger woman's left wrist, dragged her to the ground by her hair and punched her. She was arrested a short time later and charged with aggravated robbery. The injured woman was treated for a bite wound and bruising and swelling to her head.


LIVERPOOL, STABBING


A MAN who suffered stab wounds in an altercation at Liverpool has been charged with hindering a police investigation. The 25-year- old was allegedly involved in an altercation with six men at a Forbes St unit block late on Tuesday. He was charged after declining to help investigating police.


MARRICKVILLE, STABBING


POLICE are investigating an incident that left a man with a stab wound in the chest and another man with head injuries.


Emergency services were called to a unit block on George St following reports of a stabbing about 7.15pm on Tuesday.


Officers located a man with a stab wound to his chest, and another man with head injuries.


Both men were taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries. Investigations are continuing.


HORNSBY, STOLEN GOODS


DETECTIVES are still searching for a thief who stole railway track signals from a Sydney Trains employee's van.


Up to 180 signals - also known as detonators - were stolen from the vehicle while it was parked at an underground facility in Ashley St on the evening of December 27 last year.


The goods, which are placed on tracks by staff to warn railway workers a train is approaching, were only noticed missing the following morning.


Officers from Kuring gai Police Transport Command have commenced an investigation.


A NSW Police spokesman said the devices pose a safety risk if used incorrectly.


Police are advising members of the public if they locate these devices not to tamper with them or if they are offered them for sale to contact police immediately.


CALGA, TRUCK CRASH


MOTORISTS heading south to Sydney on the F3 were delayed for several hours yesterday morning after two trucks collided.


The two trucks were heading towards Sydney when they collided about 3.50am.


The driver of second truck was trapped in the wreckage and freed by emergency crews about two hours later.


He was flown to hospital and is understood to be in a stable condition.


Salvage operations took several hours, with traffic forced to divert via the Old Pacific Hwy exit.


The lanes were reopened to traffic about 8am.


YAGOONA, FRAUD


A MAN has been charged with credit card skimming offences after police stormed his Yagoona home on Tuesday.


The 38-year-old man was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with seven counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception and seven counts of recklessly dealing with the proceeds of crime.


The man was also charged with one count of possessing identity information to commit a serious offence.


Police will allege the man used cloned credit cards to fraudulently purchase a number of goods from a retail outlet in Bondi Junction on December 15 last year.


It is understood the man is part of an organised crime group involved in high-level credit card fraud, and that his arrest and the seizure of the credit card manufacturing equipment will compromise the ability of the group to commit further frauds.


Officers will further allege that certain members of the group regularly dye their hair and alter their appearances in order to avoid detection when using fraudulent credit cards to buy products.


RYDE, MISSING PERSON


POLICE are appealing for public assistance to locate a woman who has been missing for almost a week.


Moy Cheong was last seen at her Nanbaree St home about 10am last Friday.


The 60-year-old may be driving a white 2010 Mazda station wagon with NSW registration plates BVY08T.


Police have serious concerns for her welfare. She is described as being of Asian appearance, 163cm tall, 60 to 65kg, medium build with a fair complexion. She was carrying a black leather handbag.
