The morning wait was over an hour to enter the Acne Studios sample sale[1] this morning, with only ten to 15 shoppers allowed in at a time. Upon leaving the sale, we spied over 150 people were waiting in line. Is the wait worth it? If you're into true sample sales, the answer is yes.
That said, don't expect to find styles in every size at this sale. These are mostly sample sizes, some without size tags, and some that have been worn. There are price lists posted, but a selection of items have special price tags and discounts for slight damages.
There were two guys sweatshirts at $75 this morning. A few lightweight sweaters and cardigans at $100 were also left. The outerwear section had slim pickings, but there was a beautiful camel coat for $200 and a colorful lightweight shirt jacket going for $150. Hiding in the outerwear section there were three pairs of black leather pants for $350 a pop. The racks of suit pants ($75) and jeans ($100) had a lot to offer if you are a size 30 or 31 waist—there were hardly any other sizes. Also in good supply: a row of black and navy blazers for $150. Shirts were mostly small and medium pockets tees and graphic tees for $50. The few button ups left were sized 50 and 52 and going for $75.
Ladies can score a super thick shearling for $500. Striped leather jackets and a leather dress with embroidery were $350. There were some cool lightweight sweaters ($100), blouses ($75), and tees ($50) in small and medium. Dresses are $100 with some impressive styles, but mostly unmarked sizes. There was a section of off the shoulder embroidered dresses in black and burgundy. Jeans are $100, pants are $75, mostly sizes 27 and 28.
In the accessories area a single leather tote bag was priced at $150, an iPad case was $75, and two pairs of knit gloves were $25. Shoe options are slim and most have been worn. There was one pair of men shoes for $150 which didn't have a size but looked to be a 12. Most of the women's sizes were 36 to 38 and ranged from $75 to $200.
The sale runs until 7pm tonight and from noon til 7pm tomorrow. There is no coat or back check, and no fitting rooms, but lots of mirrors. It appears that all of the stock is out, so don't expect restocking. The security desk in the lobby will ask for your ID when you walk into the building.—Mickey Sery
