The name Peter Cincotti may be unfamiliar to many, but that didn’t stop Italian luxury label Tod’s from tapping the 30-year-old singer-songwriter and pianist to be one of its first and few male brand ambassadors.
Cincotti, a New York-based Italian-American musician, is hailed by Tod’s as a “multifaceted artist,” an “explorer” and a person who “has always expressed a personal style” in music. And have we mentioned that he’s actually quite a handsome fellow?
Tod’s collaboration with Cincotti is part of the brand’s Tod’s Touch campaign, which profiles talents who share the brand’s “Made in Italy” philosophy on quality and style, one that is classic but modern, traditional but forward-thinking, and extremely well-crafted. Of course, the talents are rewarded with exquisite Tod’s wardrobes, like Cincotti, who was dressed entirely in Tod’s in his music video for the new single “Madeline,” which was shot at Villa Necchi Campiglio in Milan.
The ensembles that Cincotti wore are from Tod’s ready-to-wear, shoe and accessory collections. While the ready-to-wear pieces are not available locally, most of the shoes and accessories are, including new designs of the now-staple Double Stripe shopping and document bags with color-customizable stripes.
The highlight of the new men’s line, revealed at the Autumn/Winter 2013/14 Manila presentation, is the Sartorial Touch capsule collection, a range of bags and shoes that are only offered in the Milan flagship. These pieces are so prestigious because they are made to order and crafted by hand from start to finish using traditional shoe-making techniques dating back to the 1920s. This includes the delicate two-step leather-treating method and a special “J.P. Tod’s” inscription as a mark of exclusivity.
Even the experience of having shoes made is luxurious. The Sartorial Touch space is a “secret” gentleman’s club located at the Via Spiga store, where clients can have some whiskey while choosing which shoe or bag to have made. Six shoe styles are available for commission—the Gommino, ankle boot, monk strap, moccasin, wingtip and lace-up. Special versions of the Double Stripe bags in rare materials can be ordered as well.
Tod’s is also attaching its name to the new Diana Spencer biopic. In the film Diana, the ex-Princess of Wales is portrayed by Naomi Watts, who will be seen toting the iconic D-bag and walking around in the Gommino driving shoe in a few scenes. The bag, supposedly the late princess’s favorite piece, is actually named after her. (This isn’t the only tribute the brand has for the globally adored princess. Earlier this year, the photographic book chronicling Diana’s life, “Timeless Icon,” was released. Tod’s was the book’s sponsor.)
The D-bag is famous for getting a seasonal update. For Autumn/Winter 2013/14, Tod’s came out with a limited edition couture-esque style that is completely covered in hand-studded crystals.
But the “protagonist” of the season is the new equestrian-inspired Sella bag, described as a bag that “artfully melds the tradition of craftsmanship with quality research…with a style that is pared-down, modern and elegant.” the lines of the bag “recall those of a stylized saddle, interpreted in the softest materials” like calfskin, alligator and pony hair.
Three sizes in a variety of prints and colorways are available—large shopper (in deep purple or brown), small bowler and mini bowler in purple, brown, yellow, turquoise, orange, zebra, cheetah, leopard or graphic black and white—for a total of 23 different versions.
Tod’s is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists Inc. in the Philippines and is available at Greenbelt 4 and Rustan’s Tower, Shangri-la Plaza Mall.
