Located on the third floor of Siam Center, the shop boasts a retro look with glamorous mirrors suspended from the ceiling and a black marble floor. To make sure everyone gets a look in, the shop comes up with a new theme every four months and invites different brands to participate. The current theme, which continues through January 8, is "less is glam" and blends simplicity with contemporary design through novel materials and the structure and volume of outfits.
The captivating collections come from 16 brands and all are focused on the best in minimalist glamour. ASV by aSaVa by designer Polpat Asavaprapha presents its capsule collection with knitted skirts and long-sleeved blouses inspired by the grids of the chessboard. A new special Absolute Siam will be introduced shortly.
"The design still reflects the identity of Asava but looks livelier as it is targeting younger shoppers. About 70 per cent of the apparel is made of stretchable fabric because it's both easy to wear and creates a sporty look. There's plenty of contrast between materials and forms too, such as metallic hems and print screen on tees," says Polpat.
Singer/actor Pitchaya "Golf" Nitipaisankul launches his first collection of distinctive sunglasses in geometric forms under the brand O.M.F.G while actress Ratchawin "Koy" Wongwiriya shows off her Secondskin brand which combines fabric and leather in black, white and dark brown for a rock chic look. Another actress Janesuda Pantho also has her own brand and offers evening gowns in plain hues paired with sparkling belts.
Emerging designer Strong Theveethivarak, who won the 2013 edition of the Culture Ministry's annual Contemporary Fashion Contest, blends fantasy with reality in his Nightcalls collection, with outfits made of loose white fabric.
"Inspired by sleepwalking and other unconscious actions, this collection expresses the idea of uncontrollable or involuntary movements that happen while we're asleep. Those unwitting activities are displayed through uncoordinated forms and peculiar silhouettes," he says.
Octa brand comes up with leather handbags and clutches in geometric shapes while Sethneckware offers tweedy bow ties in unusual materials like silver-coated brass to give uptown girls a masculine look. Ladies who love to make a statement will be tempted by accessories from Porshz, which include earrings are made from tiny bulbs mixed with synthetic gemstones. LA Jewelry uses the traditional glassblowing technique for its unusual earrings and necklaces.
In November, K and I by Somchai Kaewthong, Muse by Chaichana Savantrat's Good Mixer, Pravit by Pravit Sawadviphachai and Sanshai by Jirat Supisankul will complete the minimalist glamour of the Wonder Room.
"Sanshai's signature is the evening gown and we'll be offering both short and long cocktail dresses to suit all occasions. The collection is inspired by the roaring 20s and decorated with fine fabric, sequin and feather," says Jirat.
