STERLING POLICE DEPARTMENT


Sept. 8

At 1 a.m. Michael Duane Weitzel, 48, of Sterling, was arrested at 500 Elm St. on charges of driving under the influence, driving a vehicle with excessive blood alcohol content, failure to use turn signals and protection order violation.


At 2:32 a.m. Gerald Steven Hobbs, 21, of Cheyenne, Wyo., was arrested at 400 Ash St., for charges of DUI, driving a vehicle with excessive blood alcohol content and failure to drive in a designated lane. He was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he is being held on $1,000 bond, per the bond schedule.


At 6:19 p.m. Deon Jimenez, of Sterling, reported a Chevrolet truck egged. The truck was parked at 105 Magnolia Ln. The vandalism occurred between 6:19 and 6:37 p.m. Sept. 8.


Sept. 7


At 2:37 p.m. Desiray Rose Gamez, 22, of Sterling, was arrested at Wal-Mart, 1510 W. Main St., for a warrant out of SPD for failure to appear and another warrant out of Logan County Sheriff's Office for failure to comply. She was transported to the Logan County Jail, where she was held on $3,000 bond for each warrant.


Sept. 6


At 10:48 a.m. Kristen Jean Gulley, 28, of Sterling, was served a warrant, while in the Logan County Jail, for sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and sexual exploitation of a child/selling/publishing child pornography. She is currently being held on no bond per the warrant.


At 11:22 a.m. Eddie Wayne Johnson, of Sterling, reported vandalism to an Xtra-Trac A/W tire, valued at $200, at 905 Hamilton St. Half, occurring between 5 p.m. Sept. 6 and 11 a.m. Sept. 6.


At 12:18 p.m. Valerie Jean Phelps, of Sterling, reported the theft of several items from 224 N. 4th St., sometime between 12:18 and 12:52 p.m. Sept. 6. Items stolen included a Social Security card, valued at $15; a birth certificate, valued at $10; a white storage bin containing court documents, valued at $5; a black leather bag, valued at $50; and blue plastic makeup kit, valued at $20.


Sept. 5


At 4:02 p.m. Donna Schuler, of Sterling, reported the theft of a Colorado license plate 184-TFC with numbered stickers, valued at $6.17, sometime between 5 p.m. Sept. 2 and 1:30 p.m. Sept. 5.


At 7:53 a.m. Jerry Littlefeather St. John, 20, of Sterling, was served a warrant, while in the Logan County Jail, for second degree assault. He is currently being held on no bond.


At 8:53 p.m. Brandee Renee Christensen, 26, of Sterling, was arrested at 162 Castle Dr., for a warrant for sexual exploitation of children and a warrant out of Nebraska, with a $200,000 bond. She was transported to Logan County Jail, where she was held on no bond, per the SPD warrant.


At 12:44 a.m. Andrew Michael Newhart, 1957, of Aurora, was arrested at 121 N. Riverview, on a warrant out of Larimer County and charges of driving under the influence of drugs, driving under restraint and driving a motor vehicle without the required headlamps. He was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he was held on $500 bond, per the warrant and $1,000 bond per the bond schedule on the new charges.


Sept. 4


At 9:02 p.m. Dash About Shuttle reported the theft of $700 worth of cab fare from 1129 Nottingham Ct., sometime between 12 p.m. Aug. 22 and 9 p.m. Sept. 4.


Sept. 2


At 7:41 p.m. Christopher Lawrence Gertie, of Sterling, reported an assault at Kentucky Fried Chicken, 700 W. Main St. Dispatch advised the suspect was heading westbound on State Street and gave a final location of 1114 Nottingham Ct. Dispatch also advised that the suspect was a Hispanic male wearing a blue shirt.


Aug. 30


No injuries were reported after a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado LS, driven by Theodore Laumann, 82, of Sterling, turned left and collided with the left rear door of a 1991 Buick LeSabre, driven by Kimberly Davis, 50, of Sterling, at the intersection of S. Third and Ash streets, at 7:58 a.m. Laumann said the sun was in his eyes and he didn't see Davis. No injuries were reported. His vehicle sustained moderate damage and Davis' vehicle sustained severe damage. Laumann was issued a citation for failing to stop at a stop intersection.


At 10:39 p.m. Jeffrey Bacon, of Sterling, reported damage to the spoiler and scratches on a Hyundai, at 407 W. Broadway St., occurring sometime between 3 and 10:39 p.m. Aug. 30.


Aug. 16


One person was injured after a 1995 Pontiac Bonneville, driven by Jaclyn Kloberdanz, 19, of Sterling, collided with a Hawatha 10-speed, drive by Christopher Whitcomb, 16, of Sterling, in the 1000 block of W. Main St., at 1:29 p.m. Whitcomb complained of injury. EMS was on scene, he declined medical transport. Kloberdanz was not injured. Neither the vehicle or bike sustained any damage. Whitcomb was issued a citation for operating a bicycle on the wrong side of the road.


STERLING FIRE DEPARTMENT


Sept. 7

At 6:02 a.m. fire units responded to 11515 County Road 37 for an agency assist. Upon arrival, command was established. Logan County Sheriff's Office and Colorado State Patrol were on scene and needing assistance from SFD using specialized equipment. SDF provided the equipment and then were cleared from the scene.


Sept. 4


At 9:34 p.m. fire units responded to 17251 County Road 3.5 for a grass fire. While enroute dispatch update advised the reporting party stated it was raining very hard in the area of the fire and fire was extinguished. SFD units returned to service.


At 8:28 p.m. fire units responded to 508 Clark St. for a report of a power line down. Upon arrival, SFD units investigated and determined high winds had blown down tree limbs and telephone cables, but no power lines were damage. Xcel Energy was notified. The occupants were instructed to beware of dangerous tree limbs.


At 8:19 p.m. fire units responded to 201 Weston for a report of a power line down in this area. Upon arrival, SFD personnel investigated and determined tree limbs were involved. Bystanders were instructed to remain indoors for the duration of the storm because of many lighting strikes in the area. Xcel Energy was notified by dispatch. SFD units returned to service.


At 8:13 p.m. fire units responded to 1125 Nottingham Ct. for a report of tree limbs and power lines down. Prior to their arrival, SFD units received a second alarm for a power line down in the same area. One fire engine diverted to that call. Upon arrival of SFD to Nottingham Ct., fire units investigated and determined many tree limbs had blown down due to high winds, but no power lines were damaged. Bystanders were instructed to remain inside for the duration of the storm because of many lightning strikes in the area.


Sept. 3


Fire units responded to 917 Delmar St. for a report of a trash fire. Upon arrival, SFD personnel were met by the anonymous reporting party. They stated the fire was in an open pit in the yard and two doors to the west of them. An investigation determined the occupant at the listed address was conducting an illegal, controlled burn within a homemade fire pit. The occupant was ordered to extinguish the fire, because it violated Sterling ordinances. The occupant willingly complied. No other hazards were found. SFD units returned to service.


At 6:57 p.m. fire units responded to 231 N. 10th Ave. for a report of a transformer fire. Upon arrival, units were met by the reporting party who stated two power lines were arcing. An investigation found a tree growing into a power line. No transformer was involved. No arcing was seen by fire personnel. Xcel Energy was requested. The scene was turned over to Xcel personnel upon their arrival. Xcel personnel stated they would cut back the tree. SFD units went available.
