A Montrose man and woman were arrested Thursday after the woman allegedly carried a purse full of drugs into Third Ward Elementary School in Elkins, police said.
Logan Brook Marstiller, 32, and Deborah Rowback, 25, were arrested for unlawful and intentional possession with intent to deliver a Schedule I controlled substance, marijuana, according to Randolph County Magistrate Court records.
Cpl. M.S. Wetzel of the West Virginia State Police was alerted by Third Ward principal Debbie Schmidlen that the couple failed to pick up their child from school Thursday afternoon, according to the criminal complaint.
Rowback arrived shortly after and met with the principal and Wetzel, who noticed that Rowback's "eyes were very glassy" and "her speech was slurred and indicated that she was under the influence," the police report states.
Rowback was led into a private office where she placed on a table a brown leather purse, which Wetzel said had "a strong odor of marijuana." The officer searched the purse and allegedly found "24 individual bags of marijuana, syringes and approximately $500" in cash, according to the criminal complaint.
Wetzel then met with Marstiller, identified as Rowback's boyfriend, who reportedly said the drugs on Rowback's person were all the couple had in their possession. The child was turned over to Child Protective Services, the police report states.
Rowback is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $100,000 bond, while Marstiller is being held in the TVRJ on a $50,000 cash or surety bond.
