<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div readability='6.5' class='full'><br /><div readability='8' data-slideshow-var='slideshow11488' data-gallery='Ralph Lauren's niece asked arresting guard 'Can you say that in English please?' - court hears' data-domain='' data-section='news_localandnationalnews_republicofireland' class='w67 wrap'><br /><div class='imgWrapper'><img alt="Niece of fashion designer Ralph Lauren charged with being drunk and breaching the peace on a New York bound flight causing it to be diverted to Shannon airport" height="342" src="http://cdn3.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/republic-of-ireland/article29895500.ece/ALTERNATES/h342/PANews+BT_8b1d4828-5792-456e-a1f8-9e70c85c11c0_I1.jpg" title="Niece of fashion designer Ralph Lauren charged with being drunk and breaching the peace on a New York bound flight causing it to be diverted to Shannon airport"/> /></div><br />Niece of fashion designer Ralph Lauren charged with being drunk and breaching the peace on a New York bound flight causing it to be diverted to Shannon airport</div><br /></div><br /><p class='byline'><strong>By Caroline Crawford</strong> – 07 January 2014</p><br /><h2 class='p'>The niece of fashion designer <a href="http://searchtopics.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/topic/Ralph_Lauren" id="readabilityLink-1" name="readabilityLink-1" style="color: inherit; text-decoration: none;">Ralph Lauren</a><a class="readability-DoNotFootnote" href="#readabilityFootnoteLink-1" style="color: inherit;"><small>^[1] </small> </a> has been charged with being drunk and breaching the peace on a New York bound flight causing it to be diverted to Shannon airport.</h2><br /><p>Jennifer Lauren (41) appeared before Killaloe District Court this morning where she faced three charges in relation to the air rage incident which led to a New York bound flight being diverted to Shannon.</p><br /><p>Sharon Curely, defence solicitor for the jewellery designer indicated that her client would enter a plea to all charges.</p><br /><p>Judge Patrick Durcan refused to deal with the plea today, adjourning the case to tomorrow's sitting of Ennis District Court.</p><br /><p>Ms Lauren with an address on East 65th Street New York, was charged with being intoxicated to such an extent as would give rise to a reasonable apprehension that she might endanger herself or another person on board the aircraft.</p><br /><p>She was further charged with engaging in behaviour likely to cause serious offence or annoyance to any person on board the aircraft, having been requested by a member of the crew of the aircraft to cease such behaviour.</p><br /><p>Ms Lauren was also charged with a breach of the peace by engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour.</p><br /><p>All three charges relate to the Air Navigation and Transport Act 1973.</p><br /><p>Garda Yvette Walsh told the court that she arrested the accused at Shannon Airport at 2.05pm yesterday to which Ms Lauren replied; "Can you say that in English please." She was later charged at Shannon Garda station and made no reply after each charge.</p><br /><p>During the brief hearing Ms Lauren spoke only to confirm her nationality, that she held no other nationalities and that she had no other passport.</p><br /><p>Judge Durcan rejected an offer of an €800 lodgement for bail made by Ms Sharon Curley. He consented to bail on a bond of €2,500.</p><br /><p>Judge Durcan told Ms Curely that the court would be taking into account a number of matters in the case including the "nature and extent of discommoding other people", the cost to the airline and the cost to Shannon authorities.</p><br /><p>"These are the issues that have to be addressed and the court will have to be satisfied before it can be discharged," he added.</p><br /><p>Ms Lauren appeared before Judge Durcan at the hearing which was held in the function room at the Brian Boru on the Hill bar in Ballina, Co Tipperary. After spending a night in a cell in Shannon garda station, she was driven to Ballina this morning.</p><br /><p>The jewellery designer arrived at the pub where the court was sitting at 10.15am. Dressed head to toe in a smart black dress, long black coat and carrying a black leather bag, she was escorted into court by two women garda.</p><br /><p>Prior to the short hearing, the jewellery designer became emotional, wiping away tears, as she spoke to her travelling companion who attended the court hearing this morning.</p><br /><p>The incident occurred on Delta Airlines flight DL477 from Barcelona to New York on Monday afternoon. Picture: Bill Hearne</span> <span class='image-source'><em>Source:</em> News Limited</span> </p><br /></div><br /><p><strong>CAMPSIE, INDECENT ASSAULT</strong> </p><br /><p>A YOUNG woman travelling on a Sydney train was indecently assaulted by a man old enough to be her grandfather.</p><br /><p>The 22-year-old woman was catching a train from Central to Campsie around 11.30am Tuesday morning when the old man started a conversation with her.</p><br /><p>Police allege the 81-year-old then "inappropriately" touched her and tried to kiss her a number of times.</p><br /><p>The young woman moved to another part of the train before alerting Campsie police when she got of the train.</p><br /><p>The man was arrested at Campsie police station on Wednesday, where he was charged with indecent assault.</p><br /><p>He has been granted strict bail conditions to appear in Burwood Local Court on February 4.</p><br /><p><strong>RYDALMERE, STOLEN GOODS</strong> </p><br /><p>POLICE are calling on the public to identify where one tonne of stolen copper recovered in Sydney's north west originated.</p><br /><p>The stolen industrial-style copper wire, was found during a police search in Rydalmere on Tuesday afternoon, which was being taken out of its plastic covering.</p><br /><p>A 37-year-old man has arrested and charged with goods in custody suspected of being stolen.</p><br /><p>He was bailed to appear in Parramatta Local Court on February 26 and police are asking anyone with information to contact Rosehill Police or Crime Stoppers.</p><br /><p><strong>LAKE MACQUARIE, ATTEMPTED ROBBERY</strong> </p><br /><p>TWO people are on the run after a failing to steal an ATM on the Central Coast.</p><br /><p>Two pair broke into a shopping centre in Lake Macquarie on Fishery Point Rd, Bonnells Bay just after 1am Wednesday morning.</p><br /><p>They broke through the glass doors of the centre and damaged the front of the ATM before fleeing empty-handed and driving off in a car which was parked on the footpath outside.</p><br /><p>The pair had their faces covered with bandanas and have been described as having large build and dressed in black.</p><br /><p><strong>REDFERN, ATTACK</strong> </p><br /><p>A WOMAN has been charged after allegedly biting another woman on a train during an attempted robbery. Police were told a 21-year-old woman was approached by an older woman while she was travelling between Strathfield and Redfern at 11.30pm on Tuesday. The older woman then demanded she hand over her mobile phone, which the younger woman refused to do. Police allege the 42-year-old then bit the younger woman's left wrist, dragged her to the ground by her hair and punched her. She was arrested a short time later and charged with aggravated robbery. The injured woman was treated for a bite wound and bruising and swelling to her head.</p><br /><p><strong>LIVERPOOL, STABBING</strong> </p><br /><p>A MAN who suffered stab wounds in an altercation at Liverpool has been charged with hindering a police investigation. <span class='c1' id='U301151028427obF'>The 25-year- old was allegedly involved in an altercation with six men at a Forbes St unit block late on Tuesday. He was charged after declining to help investigating police.</span> </p><br /><p><strong>MARRICKVILLE, STABBING</strong> </p><br /><p>POLICE are investigating an incident that left a man with a stab wound in the chest and another man with head injuries.</p><br /><p>Emergency services were called to a unit block on George St following reports of a stabbing about 7.15pm on Tuesday.</p><br /><p>Officers located a man with a stab wound to his chest, and another man with head injuries.</p><br /><p>Both men were taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries. Investigations are continuing.</p><br /><p><strong>HORNSBY, STOLEN GOODS</strong> </p><br /><p>DETECTIVES are still searching for a thief who stole railway track signals from a Sydney Trains employee's van.</p><br /><p>Up to 180 signals - also known as detonators - were stolen from the vehicle while it was parked at an underground facility in Ashley St on the evening of December 27 last year.</p><br /><p>The goods, which are placed on tracks by staff to warn railway workers a train is approaching, were only noticed missing the following morning.</p><br /><p>Officers from Kuring gai Police Transport Command have commenced an investigation.</p><br /><p>A NSW Police spokesman said the devices pose a safety risk if used incorrectly.</p><br /><p>Police are advising members of the public if they locate these devices not to tamper with them or if they are offered them for sale to contact police immediately.</p><br /><p><strong>CALGA, TRUCK CRASH</strong> </p><br /><p>MOTORISTS heading south to Sydney on the F3 were delayed for several hours yesterday morning after two trucks collided.</p><br /><p>The two trucks were heading towards Sydney when they collided about 3.50am.</p><br /><p>The driver of second truck was trapped in the wreckage and freed by emergency crews about two hours later.</p><br /><p>He was flown to hospital and is understood to be in a stable condition.</p><br /><p>Salvage operations took several hours, with traffic forced to divert via the Old Pacific Hwy exit.</p><br /><p>The lanes were reopened to traffic about 8am.</p><br /><p><strong>YAGOONA, FRAUD</strong> </p><br /><p>A MAN has been charged with credit card skimming offences after police stormed his Yagoona home on Tuesday.</p><br /><p>The 38-year-old man was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with seven counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception and seven counts of recklessly dealing with the proceeds of crime.</p><br /><p>The man was also charged with one count of possessing identity information to commit a serious offence.</p><br /><p>Police will allege the man used cloned credit cards to fraudulently purchase a number of goods from a retail outlet in Bondi Junction on December 15 last year.</p><br /><p>It is understood the man is part of an organised crime group involved in high-level credit card fraud, and that his arrest and the seizure of the credit card manufacturing equipment will compromise the ability of the group to commit further frauds.</p><br /><p>Officers will further allege that certain members of the group regularly dye their hair and alter their appearances in order to avoid detection when using fraudulent credit cards to buy products.</p><br /><p><strong>RYDE, MISSING PERSON</strong> </p><br /><p>POLICE are appealing for public assistance to locate a woman who has been missing for almost a week.</p><br /><p>Moy Cheong was last seen at her Nanbaree St home about 10am last Friday.</p><br /><p>The 60-year-old may be driving a white 2010 Mazda station wagon with NSW registration plates BVY08T.</p><br /><p>Police have serious concerns for her welfare. She is described as being of Asian appearance, 163cm tall, 60 to 65kg, medium build with a fair complexion. I spent a solid day (OK, a couple of breaks for daytime television and playing with the cat) pulling everything off hangers and out of drawers, and throwing the contents of my closet onto the bed, where I ruthlessly weeded out what was no longer needed or required. It turned out that was quite a lot – four garbage bags full to be exact – so you can imagine how easily my thoughts turned to updating my new, spacious and somewhat spartan wardrobe for the year ahead. Here are the style resolutions I came up with for 2014:</p><br /><p><strong>I will clean out my closet</strong> </p><br /><p>If you haven't worn it for three years or more, let it go. The obvious exceptions to this rule are your wedding dress, and that floor-length gown you wear every couple of years to an event with a black tie dress code, but in all other respects comply strictly with this commandment to reap maximum rewards. Give what you no longer need to friends or to charity, and store your winter coats or special-occasion clothing in vacuum pack packages or clear storage cubes. I know it sounds crazy to buy more stuff when you are purging, but trust me, a visit to Howard's Storage World will offer you a thrilling range of storage and packaging options for your new, streamlined wardrobe.</p><br /><p><strong>I will avoid tricky trends</strong> </p><br /><p>Last year we witnessed a myriad of tricky trends, such as midriff tops, punk, overalls and over-the-knee boots.</p><br /><p>If are aged over 25 and purchased any of these garments, chances are you wore them once at best before realising they were better relegated to your niece or daughter. Let 2014 be the year of buying intelligently rather than on impulse. Find out what suits you, and work within those realms instead. (See the next resolution).</p><br /><p><strong>I will take inspiration from my style crush</strong> </p><br /><p>Not literally, as in those “get her look” sections in the weekly gossip magazines. Instead, think about the women whose looks you admire – it could be a co-worker, it could be a celebrity – and what it is about the way they dress that you admire. For example, if you think Olivia Palermo always looks good, you are a type A polished personality who should invest in highly feminine separates and the best shoes and bags you can afford to ensure your look is always pulled together with the panache that defines Palermo. My style crush is at the other end of the spectrum, and while there is nothing original about coveting the more relaxed style of Jane Birkin (yawn) I have used my admiration to amass a wardrobe based around Equipment silk shirts, cashmere V-necks, relaxed trousers and flat shoes that has changed little in the past ten years. That may sound boring, but I feel comfortable and confident and it sure makes getting dressed in the morning easy.</p><br /><p><strong>I will stop pretending exercise gear is real clothing</strong> </p><br /><p>Outside Los Angeles, Sydney is arguably the most body-conscious city in the world but having a six-pack and buns of steel is still no excuse to spend an entire day out and about in nothing more than a sports bra and American Apparel shortie shorts. The same goes for yoga pants and that threadbare T-shirt you've had since the 90s. Keep your workout wear strictly for the gym or your morning jog.</p><br /><p><strong>I will buy new lingerie</strong> </p><br /><p>Nothing lets an outfit down more than the exposure of a tattered, discoloured bra-strap. Go through your lingerie drawer and discard anything old and ill-fitting. Make an appointment for a professional bra-fitting at a department store or specialist lingerie boutique and you won't believe the results. Walk out of there with a couple of new T-shirt bras for under form-fitting clothing, an underwire black-lace bra or two for special occasions and a sports bra if you work out regularly. Pick up half a dozen pairs of invisible knickers in flesh and black and your intimates are set for the months ahead.</p><br /><p><strong>I will make do and mend</strong> </p><br /><p>Shoes and bags are the obvious contenders here. Assess all your shoes and have flats re-soled and heels re-tipped.</p><br /><p>Bag straps and buckles can be fixed or replaced by a specialist repairer, who can also re-dye the leather to another colour for a style update. Police were told a 21-year-old woman was approached by an older woman while she was travelling between Strathfield and Redfern at 11.30pm on Tuesday. The older woman then demanded she hand over her mobile phone, which the younger woman refused to do. Police allege the 42-year-old then bit the younger woman's left wrist, dragged her to the ground by her hair and punched her. She was arrested a short time later and charged with aggravated robbery. text-decoration: none;" target="_blank" title="www.dailytelegraph.com.au">Street Watch - January 8</a><a class="readability-DoNotFootnote" href="#readabilityFootnoteLink-6" style="color: inherit;"><small>^[6] </small> </a> </strong> </p><br /><p><strong><span class='c2' id='U3011510283654UB'>MARRICKVILLE, STABBING</span> </strong> </p><br /><p>POLICE are investigating an incident that left a man with a stab wound in the chest and another man with head injuries.</p><br /><p>Emergency services were called to a unit block on George St following reports of a stabbing about 7.15pm on Tuesday.</p><br /><p>Officers located a man with a stab wound to his chest, and another man with head injuries.</p><br /><p>Both men were taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.Investigations are continuing.</p><br /><p><strong>HORNSBY, STOLEN GOODS</strong> </p><br /><p>DETECTIVES are still searching for a thief who stole railway track signals from a Sydney Trains employee's van.</p><br /><p>Up to 180 signals - also known as detonators - were stolen from the vehicle while it was parked at an underground facility in Ashley St on the evening of December 27 last year.</p><br /><p>The goods, which are placed on tracks by staff to warn railway workers a train is approaching, were only noticed missing the following morning.</p><br /><p>Officers from Kuring gai Police Transport Command have commenced an investigation.</p><br /><p>A NSW Police spokesman said the devices pose a safety risk if used incorrectly.</p><br /><p>Police are advising members of the public if they locate these devices not to tamper with them or if they are offered them for sale to contact police immediately.</p><br /><p><strong>CALGA, TRUCK CRASH</strong> </p><br /><p>MOTORISTS heading south to Sydney on the F3 were delayed for several hours yesterday morning after two trucks collided.</p><br /><p>The two trucks were heading towards Sydney when they collided about 3.50am.</p><br /><p>The driver of second truck was trapped in the wreckage and freed by emergency crews about two hours later.</p><br /><p>He was flown to hospital and is understood to be in a stable condition.</p><br /><p>Salvage operations took several hours, with traffic forced to divert via the Old Pacific Hwy exit.</p><br /><p>The lanes were reopened to traffic about 8am.</p><br /><p><strong>YAGOONA, FRAUD</strong> </p><br /><p>A MAN has been charged with credit card skimming offences after police stormed his Yagoona home on Tuesday.</p><br /><p>The 38-year-old man was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with seven counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception and seven counts of recklessly dealing with the proceeds of crime.</p><br /><p>The man was also charged with one count of possessing identity information to commit a serious offence.</p><br /><p>Police will allege the man used cloned credit cards to fraudulently purchase a number of goods from a retail outlet in Bondi Junction on December 15 last year.</p><br /><p>It is understood the man is part of an organised crime group involved in high-level credit card fraud, and that his arrest and the seizure of the credit card manufacturing equipment will compromise the ability of the group to commit further frauds.</p><br /><p>Officers will further allege that certain members of the group regularly dye their hair and alter their appearances in order to avoid detection when using fraudulent credit cards to buy products.</p><br /><p><strong>RYDE, MISSING PERSON</strong> </p><br /><p>POLICE are appealing for public assistance to locate a woman who has been missing for almost a week.</p><br /><p>Moy Cheong was last seen at her Nanbaree St home about 10am last Friday.</p><br /><p>The 60-year-old may be driving a white 2010 Mazda station wagon with NSW registration plates BVY08T.</p><br /><p>Police have serious concerns for her welfare. She is described as being of Asian appearance, 163cm tall, 60 to 65kg, medium build with a fair complexion.
